Child Protection

DSC's Child Protection Policies.

The serious stuff.

The ASA have strict policies on child protection procedures. In complying with these policies, the details of all new teachers/coaches and personnel who come into close contact with children are passed to the ASA and they are vetted through the Criminal Records Bureau.

If you have any concerns about the welfare of a child you should notify an officer of the club, i.e. the Chairperson, Secretary or Coach (unless of course you suspect them of being involved).

Free and confidential.

The Amateur Swimming Association is committed to promoting the welfare of children throughout swimming. To that end they launched their joint venture with the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, SwimLine.

When you ring, you will hear a message. This will explain that you can speak to someone urgently or if it would be convenient, someone can call you back. Alternatively, you can press a number to transfer straight to the NSPCC Child Protection Helpline. This will be answered by trained and experienced counsellors who will advise you and act to protect children.

The SwimLine number is Freephone 0808 100 4001

Wavepower 2009/11

Child Welfare in Swimming

Wavepower 2009/11 is the new Amateur Swimming Association Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures manual folder and it has replaced all previous ASA Child Protection Policies and Procedures documents. We have already adopted many of the policies and procedures in this folder but as some of them are new, or are improvements on earlier methods/procedures, we will need to review our methods and make changes as necessary. If you have any questions on this, please do not hesitate to contact Linda our Welfare Officer.
